Burgess Marine Ltd

Burgess Marine employs coded Welders and Fabricators with the skills and experience to work within the Class requirements of DNV, Lloyds and RINA on both steel and aluminium ship repairs and renewals, and new build modular fabrication.

Hull damage, repairs and renewals can be carried out either in dock or afloat. Skilled Technical Managers have experience in carrying out underwater repairs using innovative cofferdams designed by our in-house experts. Vast experience gained from working with numerous operators, vessels and directly for Incat, has given Burgess Marine’s operatives superior knowledge of jet propulsion systems, in-service repairs and technical inspections.

In 2009 Burgess Marine completed the world’s largest fast ferry conversion by transforming Incat hull no. 050 into Manannan, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co’s flagship vessel. The conversion project transformed Incat hull no. 050 from a military specification vessel with a passenger capacity of 363 into Manannan, a fully fledged passenger fast ferry with a 125% increase in passenger capacity to 820.

The conversion included a new aft accommodation module, a new sky lounge and a modified transom, including a 4-tonne stern loading ramp. The Project was concluded with a state of the art interior refurbishment, including two independent modern passenger lift installations.

Burgess Marine possess all the necessary key skills in-house to carry out structural fabrication and project management on a such a scale and have the necessary strategic partnerships in place with other key contractors to oversee an entire conversion project.
