Lowestoft ship yard

Our Lowestoft Dry Dock measures 14.6 metres x 76.5 metres and is capable of housing ships with a maximum draft of 4.5 meters with appropriate tidal conditions.

Having this capacity means we are one of the leading providers of dry docking and ship repair services to North Sea and other UK and European based vessel operators.

Vast experience gained from working with numerous ship operators and builders has given our operatives in Lowestoft superior knowledge of structure, mechanics, services and propulsion systems meaning we offer a total service solution for any ship repair and refit docking requirements.

The team in Lowestoft is extremely experienced with in house expertise to not only include ship repair but also major structural fabrication; i.e. pontoons, barges and small to mid-sized offshore structures.

Lowestoft ship yard facilities and services

Our dry dock has onsite workshops for fabrication and construction as well as machine shops and engineering facilities. We can provide offices and mess facilities for ship’s crew if required. The site is fully serviced with electricity and water. We have onsite support plant including forklift trucks, cranes, scissor lifts and cherry pickers. Floating alongside repairs are also possible outside of the dry-dock, alongside, in our dedicated
lay-by berth.

As with all Burgess Marine sites, you will be fully supported by our complement of marine professionals including: technical management and shipwrights, welder/fabricators, mechanical and hydraulic engineers, electrical technicians, painters and divers.

Cherbourg ship yard

Since its inception in the late 1990’s we have been the Port of Cherbourg's primary engineering partner in respect of the Rolls-Royce Syncrolift facility in Cherbourg; our local experience is unrivalled.

The facility (with a lift of 90m x 32m) comfortably caters for vessels up to 90m in length, and offers a 3000 tonnes lift capacity. Having for many years utilised the facility specifically in support of Condor Ferries and Brittany Ferries, we are now carrying out general commercial activities on the site in the support of other ship owners and operators, including works on Superyachts.

Skilled, experienced personnel that are capable of carrying out planned or emergency dockings are routinely deployed from our UK based operations. The Cherbourg Syncrolift, the largest and most modern in the region, is ideally located only 75 miles from Southampton and Portsmouth, 70 miles from Portland, and just 135 miles from the busy Dover Straits. The longevity of our partnership ensures lift rates are highly competitive and response times immediate. Our support of the customer is key.

We have onsite support plant including forklift trucks, cranes, scissor lifts and cherry pickers. Floating alongside repairs are also possible alongside in the port of Cherbourg. Working in partnerships works; we’ve numerous local French contractors too - thus ensuring competitive pricing to our customers.

Portsmouth ship yard

Our Portsmouth ship yard, located in Portchester features a 1000t Syncrolift capable of docking vessels of up to 13.5m x 60m.

The ship cradles can move vessels of around 60 metres in length overall and up to 877 tons using the railed system. The rail system within the ship yard is movable hence allows for the traversing and dry docking of multiple vessels. The external hard-standing is approx. 85m x 50m and provides a solid and level working area with full access around vessels for cleaning down in readiness for painting.

As well as recent site wide infrastructure improvements, the ship lift has been fully refurbished, tested and certified. Ideally located to support vessels operating in the Solent and beyond, our Portsmouth ship yard services a variety customers operating in the commercial, defence and superyacht sectors. Project offices, equipment storage and welfare facilities are available to hire for the duration of your project.
